Saxophone in the Music Room

Posted by Rocio Banyuls on Thursday, May 9, 2019,
This week the children at Gracemount Primary have been learning about the saxophone. They learned what is made of, all the parts of the sax, and that the most important part to actually need to make a sound is a tiny piece made of cane called 'reed'! They were really amazed at that, but the most surprising thing was that, when asked how many keys (buttons) the saxophone had, they had a wild guess at 7 or 12, but they weren't expecting the sax to have 23 keys to press with only 10 fingers in o...

Learning the Musical Alphabet

Posted by Rocio Banyuls on Sunday, March 24, 2019,

This week at harp club, children have been playing games to learn more about the musical alphabet. They built a giant Alphabet snake and then played games reciting the alphabet forward and backwards! (really tricky when you've never done it!) - Then they are relating the alphabet with colours and writing notes on the stave in the correct places! In that way they can very early write and read their own music.

Such fun while learning!

- Activities used are part of Music Mind Games - One of the ma...

GRANGE FAIR PERFORMANCES

Posted by Rocio Banyuls on Wednesday, May 16, 2018,
Last Saturday we had the pleasure of having some of our young pupils performing at the Grange Fair.
We had a lovely sunny day (can't say that often...), and the children performed some beautiful music for the crowd gathered there.
We had three recorder groups, one of them with children as young as 5, performing their very first public performance with great confidence!

We also heard a lovely recorder duet, and we also had a very confident solo recorder by a young girl who is preparing to do her ...

James Gillespies Primary to STOP all Music Clubs

Posted by Rocio Banyuls on Tuesday, February 20, 2018,
We are very sorry to tell you that James Gillespies primary School has decided to stop all music clubs using school premises from August 2018, due to space restrictions.

The news have come as a great shock to us, especially considering that we have been working in the school for 10 years and have grown a great music community and impacted greatly the life of so many children there, through our many music clubs (Music play Room, Recorder, Ukelele, Guitar, Piano and Voice).

The school have given...

MUSIC LANGUAGE (Theory and Aural)

Posted by Rocio Banyuls on Monday, August 21, 2017,
This term we are going to start Music Language lessons.

Is your child learning an instrument but spends half the lesson trying to read the notes and understand the signs?

Music theory is essential when learning music, which is after all a language. Learning to read, write and interpret it correctly will help students progress much faster and better in their instruments.

We also help them prepare for exams and grades.

Suitable for any child between 8-16, at any level.

Christmas Concerts

Posted by Rocio Banyuls on Saturday, December 17, 2016,

The last couple of weeks have been very intense for all the children at Ritmico getting ready for show and performances for family and friends.
We've seen beautifully performed pieces, premieres of pieces composed by our students! and lots of enthusiasm.

Performing can be stressing, but it is an important process of building up confidence and self esteem.

From all the team, WELL DONE to all the children!!!

And Merry Christmas!

Getting to know about all the musical instruments

Posted by Rocio Banyuls on Tuesday, November 18, 2014,
At Ritmico, one of our favourite clubs is the Music Play Room.
In it, the children get to try first hand a great variety of instruments and learn about them.

This term, in the several Play Rooms running, we've had instruments like the saxophone, trumpet, piano, violin, flute, recorder and percussion.
And there's more coming!!

The children can then try them and make an informed decision when they chose an instrument to play later on.

We've recently started a Music Play Room in collaboration with th...
